Durban Volunteers

Supporting Queensburgh's Children

Right here in Queensburgh, we are closing the hunger gap, one meal packet at a time. Together with our neighbours, we ensure every child in our community goes to bed nourished, proud, and ready to dream.

Seeds of Hope is nourishing children experiencing hunger today while working to solve hunger for tomorrow.

Our Mission

"An empty stomach cannot dream."

Seeds of Hope is dedicated to nourishing youth and children in Durban by addressing immediate hunger and building sustainable pathways to food security. We believe that by providing immediate relief and agricultural education, we empower our community to grow their own future.

Seeds of Hope is an initiative of Behind the Mission Foundation (NPO Registration Pending).

The Seed Meal

The Seed Meal

Immediate relief starts with warm, nutritious, and simple dinners. We distribute dry meal packets, such as biryani or macaroni and cheese, where families only need to add water and cook. These packets provide a hearty, instant meal for youth and children, ensuring no child goes to bed hungry.

  • Instant dry meal packs (like biryani or mac & cheese).
  • Just add water and cook for a warm, nutritious dinner.
  • Targeted distribution at schools and youth community centres.
The Harvest Rescue

The Harvest

We believe in redirecting abundance. Through our food rescue network, we partner with local supermarkets, farms, and food suppliers to intercept surplus produce, such as spinach, carrots, onions, and potatoes, directing high-quality food to those who need it most before it goes to waste.

  • Partnerships with local Durban farms and retailers.
  • Redirection of surplus nutritious produce to community kitchens.
  • Reducing food waste while feeding the community.
Starter Garden Kit

The Garden

True sustainability grows from the ground up. We equip youth centres and households with starter agricultural kits, including carrot, spinach, onion, and potato seeds, organic compost, a small garden fork, and a basic planting guide, fostering self-reliance and community agriculture.

  • Starter farming kits tailored for Durban soils.
  • Comprehensive basic guide to growing vegetables.
  • Fostering long-term agricultural skills and food autonomy.
